Special Counsel – Intellectual Property
Atty. Laygo obtained her Juris Doctor Degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2008 under a full scholarship from the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the same university in 2004.
She obtained her Master of Laws Degree in Intellectual Property from the University of Turin, where she graduated cum laude under a full scholarship from the World Intellectual Property Organization. She is a member of the Philippine Judicial Academy Corps of Professors and Lecturers, and has given lectures on Intellectual Property Law to members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, business associations, chambers of commerce, and government agencies.
Atty. Laygo has written peer-reviewed papers and published material on intellectual property. She served as Attorney for the Office of the Director General of the Philippine Intellectual Property Office for seven (7) years, where she handled legal policy and international cooperation. She represented the Philippines to negotiate various bilateral and regional free trade and investment agreements, and in international fora such as the World Intellectual Property Organization, the World Trade Organization, and the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation. She also delivers seminars and conferences for intellectual property authorities and industry stakeholders in the Southeast Asia region.
She advises and works with the firm’s lawyers on various intellectual property issues, especially where international or foreign registrations are involved.
